We are using this survey to do research for a book we plan to write. Your answers will help us know what you are thinking as pet parents. We will review your answers and possibly follow up by interviewing you for the book. With the information that you provide, our hope is to further the goal of having no more homeless pets. The more pet-friendly communities and countries are, the more people will be able to comfortably adopt and keep their pets safe and happy as respected and valued family members. Housing – Where You Choose to LiveI choose a house to live in that has pet safety features
such as a fenced-in back yard, away from busy highways, windows for the pet to

I consider factors such as nearby location of dog parks,
veterinary offices, pet daycare, pet food/supply stores when I choose where to

Home Design, Landscaping, Furniture, and AppliancesI choose furniture and appliances that are not easily
destroyed by a pet. Give an example of furniture or appliances you have chosen because your pet wouldn’t easily destroy them, e.g. type of fabric or flooring.
I take my pet into consideration when I design or remodel my

I expect a vet to be sensitive to my feelings about my pet
and to communicate with me about my needs. I buy pet health insurance that covers veterinary procedures

Pet Services and GiftsI take my pet to a groomer. I attend or have attending training classes with my pet. I buy toys and gifts for my pet. Give an example of a pet toy or gift you would buy if it was available.
I am careful about the person or facility I choose to take care of my
pets when I am away. Give an example of what you have done to ensure your pet’s safety and comfort with a pet-sitter or boarding facility.
I dress my pet in brand name items, e.g. mini Harley Davidson

I fly airlines that take extra precautions for my pet’s

I prefer to buy car insurance from a company that provides

Restaurants, Entertainment, and Leisure ActivitiesI choose to eat in restaurants where I can bring my pet,

Businesses and WorkBringing my pet to work is an enjoyable experience for

My company or business lets me take personal time to care
for my pet when he/she is ill or needs to go to the vet. I would choose to work for a company or business that
provides pet health insurance over one that does not. Give an example of benefits a company or business could offer that would make it more attractive for you to work because you have a pet, e.g. doggie daycare, pet-sitting.
Homeless Animals and RescueI rescue my pets from shelters or breed rescue groups. Give an example of a pet you have rescued and adopted.
I believe my community’s quality of life is measured by its
provisions for rescuing animals and placing them in good homes. I believe it is important for my community and state to have
a disaster preparedness plan that includes temporary emergency sheltering animals. Give an example of what your community or state could do to support the safety of your pet and reduce the number of homeless animals in a way that fits with your values.
